A 2-stage whole-house filter with clear housings on both stages and 1/2" brass ports — the configuration that combines visible cartridge monitoring with solid-brass plumbing connections in a compact 10" × 2.5" twin-housing footprint.

Two-Stage Configuration with Visual Monitoring

• Stage 1 — Sediment cartridge in clear housing: removes dirt, rust, sand. The clear bowl shows sediment buildup so replacement is timed to actual saturation, not calendar guesswork.
• Stage 2 — Carbon cartridge in clear housing: removes chlorine, taste, odour. The clear bowl on Stage 2 shows discolouration as the cartridge ages.

Both cartridges 10" × 2.5" standard format. Each housing has its own clear bowl, so you can monitor each stage independently — sediment may need replacement on a different schedule than carbon depending on incoming water quality.

1/2" Brass Ports — What That Buys You

Most compact whole-house filter housings use plastic threaded ports. They work fine on most installations but can deform under thermal cycling or aggressive plumbing tightening, eventually leaking.

1/2" brass ports are the upgrade: solid brass machine-threaded inlet and outlet that handles repeated installation cycles, thermal stress, and standard plumbing torque without deformation. For installations where the filter may be removed and reinstalled multiple times over its life (renovations, replacements, servicing), brass ports outlast plastic by years.
