The 3/8" high-pressure water filter tubing — the larger format LLDPE tubing for commercial RO installations and high-flow circuits where 1/4" creates flow restriction. Same NSF/ANSI certifications as the standard 1/4" tubing, just sized up for higher-volume applications.
When to Use 3/8" Instead of 1/4"
3/8" tubing has roughly 2.5× the cross-sectional flow area of 1/4" tubing — at the same pressure, it carries proportionally more water without significant pressure drop. This matters in:
- Commercial RO systems at 400+ GPD output
- Pump-tank inlet and outlet lines — pumps typically have 3/8" NPT ports
- Whole-house filter feed lines between mains and primary filter
- Drain and reject lines on commercial RO with higher reject volumes
- Multi-stage commercial pre-treatment linking between large cartridge housings
For anything residential, 1/4" tubing is fine. For commercial and high-flow, 3/8" is the right answer.
NSF/ANSI Certifications
- NSF/ANSI 42 — aesthetic effects (taste, odour, chlorine)
- NSF/ANSI 58 — reverse osmosis system components
- NSF/ANSI 61 — drinking-water system components, health effects
All three certifications apply to the LLDPE tubing material — the certification doesn't change between tube sizes, only the dimensions do.

Installation Cautions
Same as for the 1/4" tubing:
- Maximum 45°C — keep away from fire and high-temperature areas
- Don't bend at sharp 90° angles (use elbow fittings)
- Inspect surface before use
- Cut off used portion before reuse
- Avoid direct sunlight (UV degradation over time)
